Nitro Swimming Does it Again! Four Straight TAGS Championships!
Here’s a brief history…
March, 2007 Short Course TAGS finish: 32nd.
March, 2008 Short Course TAGS finish: 11th.
March, 2009 Short Course TAGS finish: 6th.
March, 2010 Short Course TAGS finish: 2nd.
July, 2010 Long Course TAGS finish: 1st.
March, 2011 Short Course TAGS finish: 1st.
July, 2011 Long Course TAGS finish: 1st.
March, 2012 Short Course TAGS finish: 1st !!!
We did it again!! This past weekend, there were 74 teams represented, 913 total athletes. 62 of those swimmers represented Nitro.
53 teams scored points, meaning 21 teams didn’t. To score a point, you needed an athlete to finish in the top 16 places in any one of the 106 events.

The Nitro athletes swam exceptionally well, capturing “high point age group awards” in 5 out of the 6 possible categories: the 10 and Under Girls, 11-12 Girls, 11-12 Boys, 13-14 Girls, and 13-14 Boys.
Nitro had several top 10 individual scorers once all the places were tallied:
In the 10 and Under Girls, Sarah Kutz was the 3rd overall points scorer out of 55 scorers. Payton Marvin was 6th, and Madison Bowman was 10th.
In the 11-12 Girls, Olivia Allen was 7th and Ilse Adame was 9th overall out of 71 point scorers.
13-14 Girls: Karling Hemstreet was 1st, Regan Barney was 7th out of 80 who scored points.
In the 11-12 Boys, Isaac Gwin was 1st, Corban Rawls was 2nd, and Luke Gwin was 6th out of the 58 points scorers.
Mason Tenney was 1st and Ben Walker was 3rd in the 13-14 Boys out of 71.
Nitro had many top 8 finishes including the following event winners:
Girls 10 and Under:
Payton Marvin, 200 Freestyle with a winning time of 2:08.48.
Madison Bowman, 50 Butterfly – 29.65 (Sarah Kutz was 2nd with a 29.91)
200 Medley Relay team of Keren Makhervaks, Sarah Kutz, Madison Bowman, and Payton Marvin- 2:05.76.
Girls 13-14:
Karling Hemstreet: 50 freestyle, 23.75; 200 Freestyle, 1:51.57; 1000 Freestyle, 10:10.81; 200 Backstroke, 2:04.92.
Regan Barney: 400 IM, 4:27.68.
Boys 11-12:
Luke Gwin: 50 Backstroke, 27.13; 100 Backstroke, 57.50.
Isaac Gwin: 200 Backstroke, 2:00.37 (Brother Luke was 2nd in 2:01.07); 50 Butterfly: 25.89; 100 Butterfly, 56.43; 100 IM, 58.53; 200 IM, 2:05.25;
Corban Rawls: 50 Breastroke, 31.01; 100 Breastroke, 1:05.92;

13-14 Boys
Ben Walker, 100 Breastroke, 58.43; 400 IM, 4:04.12 (*New TAGS Record).

The Coaches did an outstanding job of managing the meet, keeping the mood light, and logging in some mammoth days on the pool deck. I want to say thank you to Greg, Greg, Flo, and Todd, and give a special shout out to Josh who came up on his own after a full day of coaching at Cedar Park– who was there with us on Sat night, Sunday morning, and Sunday night. Huge kudos!!

Nitro now sets its sights on the July Long Course Championship meets only 4 months away!! Nitro Swimming will also have more than a handful of athletes competing at this summer’s United States Olympic Trials in Omaha. Maybe, just maybe there is a possibility we could see some Nitro representation on the US Olympic team. Keep your fingers crossed!! In the meantime, Go Nitro!!
